Licorice root extract DGL — Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice
DGL (Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice) is a dry licorice root extract from which glycyrrhizic acid has been removed. In the finished product its residual share is below 1 %.
DGL is a fine powder of a slightly creamy or slightly brownish shade. Because of the very low residual glycyrrhizic acid content, the sweetness typical of licorice is minimal.
During DGL production the extract retains the other components of licorice root, including flavonoids, chalcones and polysaccharides, as well as other beneficial substances.
The key difference of DGL from the other forms of licorice extract is exactly this: a low glycyrrhizic acid content with the other licorice components preserved. The product is used for medical and health purposes.
