In perfumery wormwood is used for bitter-herbal, aromatic, absinthe and experimental directions. Small quantities can make a composition drier, more grown-up and more contrasting, particularly next to woody, leather, incense and green notes.
Industrial work with wormwood requires mandatory control of species and chemotype: thujone content and other components can differ substantially. This directly affects permitted applications, inclusion limits and the requirements of a particular market.
