Blue chamomile
Chamomile essential oil is a complex and valuable aromatic material with a warm herbaceous, sweetish-balsamic profile and characteristic depth. A blue or deep-blue colour, caused by azulene components, is typical of good-quality oil and visually sets it apart from most essential oils.
In perfumery chamomile is used in herbal, tea-like, floral and botanical compositions where a soft yet recognisable natural note is required. It can round off sharp herbaceous accents and give a formula a more «natural», complex sound.
In the cosmetic segment the oil is of particular interest to premium botanical and sensitive-positioned lines: creams, serums, oil blends, body products and specialist care. In marketing use it is important to separate the aromatic and raw-material value of the ingredient from medical claims about the finished product.
Because of its high cost, chamomile oil is usually purchased not as a mass fragrance but as a functionally significant botanical ingredient. For the manufacturer, origin, a confirmed GC profile and batch-to-batch stability of the key components matter most.
