Rosemary

Rosemary essential oil combines a fresh herbaceous note with camphoraceous and eucalyptus shades. In the cineole type the profile is especially clean and cool, so the oil reads as a functionally fresh ingredient rather than simply «the smell of herbs».

In hair care and scalp care rosemary supports shampoos, tonics, serums and scalp products well. In men’s cosmetics, shower gels and sports lines it adds an energetic herbal-fresh character and pairs well with mint, eucalyptus, citrus and coniferous oils.

For perfumers rosemary is a classic aromatic note, useful in fougère, herbal, cologne and clean compositions. In home care it is in demand in cleaning and air-care products where an associative freshness effect is needed. Food use is possible for oil of the appropriate quality in herbal and savoury flavour systems.

When purchasing it is important to take the chemotype into account: cineole, camphor and verbenone rosemary can differ noticeably in composition and behaviour in a formulation. For an industrial customer, therefore, the stated chemotype and key marker components often matter more than the general botanical name.
